FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Drummer On Singer IVAN MOODY: 'It's Great' To Have Him Back
June 13, 2018FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH drummer Jeremy Spencer was recently interviewed on episode 59 of the "DOMKcast". You can now listen to the chat using the widget below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On whether the lawsuit with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's record label, Prospect Park, was caused by the fact that the band started recording the new album, "And Justice For None", without the company's permission:
Jeremy: "Well, that's what they say, but by contract, we were allowed to. We started on the day we were allowed to, by contract. He [apparently referring to Prospect Park head honcho Jeff Kwatinetz] was butthurt because we were leaving the label, and he thought that, 'If I can't have you, nobody else will.' It was crap, man — it was stressful, it was not good — and, at the end of the day, we released the record, but it was a year later, it threw us off cycle, it was stupid. But it's out now, and everyone's digging it. It's No. 1 in over 20 countries already, so there is some justice after all, I guess, isn't there?"
On whether FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH overthought the making of "And Justice For None" because the band had so much extra time before the album was released:
Jeremy: "Absolutely. But we were fortunate enough to… Well, the label wanted us to do some more songs as part of us getting out of the deal, so once we did a new batch of songs, we decided to swap some songs out anyway. So it worked out; it was fine. But, yeah, you overthink it, 'cause it's just sitting there, and you're going, 'Man, I wanna make it better.' That's what artists do. So it's almost good when you have to turn it in and there's a deadline, and you're done with it."
On how FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH singer Ivan Moody is doing, one year after he left the band's European tour to receive treatment for alcohol addiction:
Jeremy: "He's sober. He's healthy. It's great to have Ivan, the person, back. He's a cool cat whenever he's a person. It's a tough disease, man. A few of us have struggled with that. It's no joke; it can rip you apart. But he's doing great. I'm proud of him. He's doing the work, and he's doing a great job of being the frontman that he always was. I think he's back, man. I love it."
In May 2016, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH announced it had signed a new North American recording deal with the BMG-owned rock label Rise Records.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will kick off a co-headlining run with BREAKING BENJAMIN on July 16 in Seattle.
